Ennis Shatters 200 Breast Record on Final Day of CAC Championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--Freshman Robert Ennis and junior Matt Haynes of the Hood College men's swim team each notched school records Sunday on the final day of the Capital Athletic Conference championships at St. Mary's College (Md.).

Ennis won the consolation heat of the 200 breaststroke in convincing fashion and lowered the school record by nearly five seconds with a time of 2:21.27. After qualifying as the 13th seed in the trials this morning, he set the pace early and never looked back, winning the event by over three seconds. His performance bested Eugene Alekseyev's time of 2:26.01 from October of 2006.

Haynes lowered Alekseyev's school record in the 100 free by 0.35 seconds with a time of 49.61 and placed third in the consolation heat.

Senior Jason Kinder took fourth in the 1650 free with a clocking of 17:16.06. The 400 free relay team of Ennis, Kyle Atras, Haynes and Kinder closed the meet with a time of 3:39.68 to finish seventh.

The Blazers compiled 160 points and finished seventh in the team standings to wrap up the 2007-08 season.
