Swimmers Wrap Up Competition at CAC Championship

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College men's and women's swim teams concluded their 2006-07 season Sunday evening on the third and final day of the Capital Athletic Conference championship. The Blazer men finished seventh while the women's squad placed eighth in their inaugural CAC meet.
On the men's side, Jason Kinder took runner-up honors in the 1650 free and bested his own school record by over 52 seconds in an impressive time of 17:02.00. Matt Haynes placed 14th in the 100 free with a clocking of 51.26. Matt Caron (2:12.20) and Stu Kaufman (2:13.60) each earned season-best times in the 200 back, placing 12th and 13th, respectively. Lastly, the 400 relay squad of Caron, Haynes, Kinder and Fran Pedersen came in eighth in a season-best time of 3:29.41.
For the women, Amy Kaufman garnered fifth place in the 1650 free in a time of 18:40.40 while the 400 free relay squad of Erica Hamor, Kaufman, Ashley Garyn and Katie Hitchens lowered their own school record by over three seconds and placed sixth in 3:53.12.
The University of Mary Washington won both the men's and women's team competitions. The Eagle women won their 17th consecutive crown while the men took home their 13th title and fifth in a row.
