Kinder, Kaufman Earn CAC Weekly Awards
FREDERICK, Md.--Juniors Amy Kaufman and Jason Kinder were honored as the Capital Athletic Conference "Co-Athletes of the Week" as announced by conference officials Monday. This is Kaufman's second award this season while it is Kinder's first recognition of the winter.
Both Kaufman and Kinder led the Blazers to a pair of victories last week by winning every event they swam. Kaufman, a native of Sykesville, Md., swept the distance events against Frostburg State, taking the 1000 free in 11:28.00 and the 500 free in 5:36.00. Then on Saturday against Penn State Altoona, Kaufman took top honors in the 200 individual medley (2:27.90) and the 200 back (2:26.31). She also swam the leadoff leg of two victorious 400 free relays.
Kinder was impressive in both meets last week, winning three different individual events to go along with two relays. The Walkersville product won the 200 individual medley against both the Bobcats (2:12.00) and Lions (2:11.86), in addition to capturing the 200 back (2:10.66) and the 200 fly (2:13.20) in the Altoona win. Kinder also swam on both of Hood's triumphant 400 free relays squads. He swam the anchor leg against FSU to clinch the victory for the Blazers in a season-best time of 3:36.16.
The Blazer women (7-9) return to action this weekend at the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference championship hosted by Chatham College. Both the Hood men's and women's squads will take part in the Capital Athletic Conference championships Feb. 9-11 at St. Mary's College (Md.).
