Swimming Splits with Frostburg State
FROSTBURG, Md.--The Hood College swimming teams split a dual
meet at Frostburg State University Sunday afternoon.
The Blazer women posted a 115-85 victory to improve to 6-3 on the
season, while the men dropped a 103-81 decision to fall to 3-3.
Amy Kaufman and Sarah Haney led the Hood women by winning two
individual events and a relay.
Kaufman captured the 400 (4:57.14) and 800 (10:11.23) freestyles,
while Haney claimed the 200 individual medley (2:50.23) and the 100
breaststroke (1:24.73). The duo later teamed with Ashley Garyn and
Katie Hitchens to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.54).
Hitchens added a victory in the 50 freestyle (30.12) and was the
runner-up in the 100 freestyle (1:08.60), Lenore Brown won the 100
backstroke (1:13.45) and took second in the 200 freestyle (2:20.44)
and Kendra Van Wyck finished second in the 100 butterfly
(1:22.01).
Brown, Kara Cruice, Dani Sgro and Chloe Gandy teamed to win the 200
medley relay (2:28.87).
On the men's side, Jason Kinder and Matt Caron each won three
events.
Kinder claimed the 800 freestyle (9:30.43), the 200 individual
medley (2:26.64) and the 400 freestyle (4:31.45), while Caron
captured the 200 freestyle (2:21.00), the 100 butterfly (1:09.78)
and the 100 backstroke (1:09.92).
Stu Kaufman finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:13.41) and was
third in the 800 freestyle (10:00.62). Fran Pederson was second in
the 100 butterfly (1:14.78) and placed third in the 200 freestyle
(2:25.77).
Kaufman, Pederson, Jeff Dickens and Eric Walton ended the afternoon
with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay
(2:01.32).
The Blazers host Bethany (W.Va.) College Saturday at 2 p.m.
