Swimming Splits with McDaniel
FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College swimming teams split a dual
meet with McDaniel Wednesday evening at the Hood Aquatics
Center.
The Blazer men (2-0) set three team records en route to a 98-84
victory, while the women (2-1) fell 119.5-68.5.
The men set the tone early by establishing a new school mark in the
200 medley relay as sophomore Jason Kinder, freshman Kyle Zehner,
freshman Jimmy Shea and freshman Matt Haynes combined to finish in
1:46.50.
Kinder then won the 1,000 freestyle in a school-record 10:38.39 and
later captured the 500 freestyle in 7:58.48.
Shea set a school mark in the 200 individual medley with a winning
time of 2:05.15 and also captured the 200 butterfly in 2:18.44.
Also picking up wins were Haynes in the 100 freestyle (52.61) and
freshman Jeff Dickens in the 200 freestyle (2:45.08).
Dickens, junior Matt Caron, junior Stu Kaufman and freshman Eric
Walton sealed Hood's victory by capturing the 200 freestyle relay
in 1:49.95.
On the women's side, McDaniel won six events and added four
runner-up finishes to post the victory.
Blazer sophomore Amy Kaufman was part of the winning 200 freestyle
relay team, won the 500 freestyle (5:43.17) and finished second in
the 1,000 freestyle (11:38.64).
Sophomore Katie Hitchens joined Kaufman on the 200 freestyle relay
team, tied for first in the 50 freestyle (26:36) and took second in
the 100 freestyle (1:00.53).
Hood also received runner-up finishes from sophomore Lenore Brown
in the 200 freestyle (2:06.69) and the 200 backstroke (2:33.42) and
freshman Sarah Haney in the 200 butterfly (2:50.22).
