ANNVILLE, Pa. - Hood College's Matt Ball and Max Riedel were chosen to the Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference men's swimming team for their efforts both in the classroom and in the pool during the 2017-18 season.
Ball is a biology major with a chemistry minor. At the 2018 MAC Championships, he set the school record (1:59.73) and placed seventh in the 200 butterfly.
A biochemistry major, Riedel minors in mathematics. He turned in an All-MAC performance in the 1650-yard freestyle at the conference championships after finishing third in 16:33.12.
Hood was one of only two MAC institutions with multiple student-athletes voted Academic All-MAC in men's swimming. It is also the third straight year that the Blazers have posted multiple selections.
The Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field during the 2018 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight to both academic success and athletic success.
