Moreland, Haynes, Nemecek Claim Top Honors in Home Finale

FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Matt Haynes won a pair of individual events in his last home dual meet as the Hood College men's swim team (1-7) fell to the visiting Penn State Altoona Nittany Lions, 124-63, Saturday on Senior Day at the Huntsinger Aquatic Center.

One of the best sprinters in Hood men's swimming history, Haynes showed his versatility this afternoon by taking top honors in both distance events, the 1000 free (11:15.19) and the 500 free (5:35.88). The native of Walkersville, Md., was also second in the 100 fly (1:01.36).

Hood's other senior, A.J. Smith, placed fifth in the 200 free (2:45.38) and the 100 free (1:11.86). 

Chris Nemecek placed second in the 50 free (24.58) and won the 100 back (1:02.66).

Hood's Chris Moreland and Altoona's Dan Bodde had quite a duel in the freestyle events. Moreland won the 200 free (1:54.18) by 0.68 seconds over Bodde and but was second to Bodde in the 100 free (51.45) by 0.22 seconds. Moreland was also second in the 100 breast (1:09.57).

Thomas Williams finished fifth in the 50 free (33.64) and the 100 breast (1:30.82). 

Kyle Atras placed third in the 200 IM (2:52.42) and fourth in the 500 free (6:50.53).

Hood concludes the regular season Friday at the University of Mary Washington. The CAC dual meet begins at 6 p.m.
