Voorhis, Diehl Chosen as 2012 Men's Soccer Team Captains
FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Matt Voorhis and junior Eric Diehl of the Hood College men's soccer team have been selected as team captains for the 2012 fall season, as announced by head coach Brian Wall.
"We feel that Matthew and Eric will both be excellent captains and we are excited about them leading our team on and off the field," said Wall, who is entering his ninth season at the helm of the Blazers. "Both players have already done a tremendous job this offseason leading by example and they are excited about the challenges of helping us lead and guide a young and inexperienced squad this upcoming fall season."
Voorhis, a defender from Walkersville, Md., joined the Blazers last season and started 11 of the 12 games he played in 2011. He would often mark the opponent's top offensive threat and also attempted five shots on the season.
Diehl, a midfielder from Gaithersburg, Md., has scored nine goals and contributed six assists in his two seasons in the blue-and-grey. He has started all 30 games he has played at Hood and comes into his junior campaign in sixth place on Hood's career scoring chart with 24 points.
Voorhis, Diehl and the Blazers open the 2012 campaign Friday, Aug. 31 at Goucher College at 7 p.m. Hood's first home game of the fall is slated for Thursday, Sept. 6, against Mt. Aloysius College at 4:30 p.m. Hood will be playing its inaugural season as a member of the Commonwealth Conference within the Middle Atlantic Conferences this fall as well. Hood's first MAC contest will be Saturday, Sept. 29 against Widener University at 2 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
"We are very excited about the challenges of being a new member in a established and competitive soccer conference," said Wall. "Our 2012 schedule is very competitive and each game will be very challenging for our players. Our team is excited as they get an opportunity to compete against many new teams and we hope to represent Hood College the best that we can in every game we play this fall season."
