Wesley Edges Hood, 3-1

FREDERICK, Md.--The visiting Wesley College Wolverines scored a pair of second half goals to break open a 1-1 halftime tie and hung on to defeat the Hood College men's soccer team (3-4, 0-2 CAC) Wednesday in a Capital Athletic Conference contest at Thomas Athletic Field.

At the 34:25 mark of the first half, Wesley's Sean Wise crossed the ball from the right side to Dom Citino in front of the net and Citino slid into the ball and knocked it passed Hood keeper Shawn Fernholz to put the Wolverines up 1-0. But less than seven minutes later, senior Craig Wachter blasted a shot from 15 yards out and by Wesley netminder Nick Talarico for his first career goal as a Blazer.

Wesley wasted little time coming out of the intermission as Brian McCann found Kenny Heidtmann for a score just 1:32 into the second stanza to give Wesley a 2-1 edge. Midway through the half, Wise had one of his five shots ricochet off the right post and into the net for the final margin.

Fernholz finished with eight saves in defeat while Talarico was credited with nine stops.

Hood returns to action Saturday against Marymount University in another CAC matchup at 1 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
