Men's Soccer Falls to LaRoche in Season Opener

FROSTBURG, Md.--Senior forward Tom Noonan scored the lone goal
for the Hood College men's soccer team (0-1) in a season-opening
4-1 loss to the LaRoche College Redhawks (1-0) Friday evening in
the opening round of the Frostburg State University tournament.
After LaRoche's Kurt Raymond netted an unassisted goal to open the
scoring at the 10:19 mark, Noonan capitalized on a penalty kick
opportunity which knotted the score at 1-1 midway through the half.
It was the 23rd goal of Noonan's Blazer career. The Redhawks were
aided by a Hood "own goal" at the 27:20 mark and held a 2-1 edge at
intermission.
In the second half, LaRoche's Reuben Jolo tallied a pair of goals
in the final 27 minutes for the final margin.
The Blazers outshot the Redhawks, 18-12, but LaRoche keeper
Camillo DiLorenzo turned away six of Hood's seven shots on goal in
the victory. Hood keeper Shawn Fernholz made three stops for the
Blazers in the losing cause.
Hood continues play at the Frostburg State University tournament
Saturday against the host Bobcats at 4 p.m.
