Men's Soccer Posts Record Win Over Lancaster Bible
FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's soccer team set two school records and tied another in a 9-0 blowout of Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
The Blazers (3-3) set single-game school marks for goals and margin of victory in downing the Chargers (1-4-1) for the third time in as many all-time meetings.
David Wilson, who joined the team earlier this week, scored three times to tie the Hood single-game record first set by Tom Noonan against Mount Aloysius College Sept. 5, 2005. Noonan also tied his own mark with three goals in a 4-0 shutout of Mount Aloysius this past Thursday.
Hood needed little time to get on the scoreboard as Ben Snyder found the net off an assist from Corey DeMaster in the game's first minute.
Noonan gave the Blazers a 2-0 advantage in the 15th minute when he converted a feed from Michael Edwards. Brendon Ricketts scored off an assist from Noonan less than two minutes later as Hood took a 3-0 lead at the break.
The Blazers tacked on six more goals in the second half. Marcelino Rabara scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute before Noonan and Tom Sprague added goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes, respectively.
Wilson tacked on Hood's final three goals of the afternoon. He scored an unassisted goal in the 76th minute, converted a crossing pass from Steve Mahaney in the 82nd minute and headed in a cross from Sprague in the 88th minute to complete the scoring.
Blazer goalie Shawn Fernholz made one save to record his second consecutive shutout.
Hood, which held a commanding 30-2 advantage in shots, returns to action Wednesday when it visits Goucher College for a Capital Athletic Conference match beginning at 4 p.m.
