Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win of Season

FREDERICK, Md.--Tom Noonan and Marcelino Rabara had a goal and two assists apiece to lead the Hood College men's soccer team to a 7-1 win over visiting Valley Forge Christian College Wednesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Blazers (1-2) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Brendon Ricketts found the net in the third minute with an assist from Rabara.

Ben Snyder tallied the eventual game winner in the 15th minute off an assist from Noonan, and Brandon Garton put the Blazers ahead 3-0 off another feed from Rabara.

Noonan assisted on Corey DeMaster's goal in the 33rd minute before connecting off a pass from Raul Diaz in the 40th minute to give Hood a commanding 5-0 halftime lead.

Valley Forge avoided the shutout when Jonathan Rounsaville sent in a free kick from 25 yards out in the 72nd minute, but Hood tacked on two more goals to cap the victory.

Rabara banked in a 40-yard blast off the crossbar in the 80th minute, and Jason Donnelly put the finishing touches on the match when he converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.

Shawn Fernholz picked up his first career victory by making a pair of saves for Hood, which held a commanding 31-7 advantage in shots.

The Blazers return to action Monday when they host 10th-ranked York (Pa.) College at 4:30 p.m. in the first ever Capital Athletic Conference contest in Hood history.
