Mattoon Announces Men's Lax Class of 2016

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College head men's lacrosse coach Jeremy Mattoon has announced the addition of 11 recruits to his 2012-13 roster.

The class consists of four defenders, three midfielders, three attackmen and one goalkeeper.

"I am super excited about our 2012 recruiting class," said Mattoon, who is entering his third season as Hood's head coach. "Our plan was to bring in one guy at every position and we have done that. Not only are these guys good lacrosse players, they are outstanding young men who come from great families. I cannot wait to get the 2012-13 season started."

GOALKEEPER

Jonathan Fogarty is a 6-0, 260-lb. goalkeeper from Methacton High School in Worcester, Pa. He has been on the varsity team for two years and was the varsity starter this past spring. In addition to his high school program, Fogarty played summer travel lacrosse for 380 lacrosse's varsity travel team. 

DEFENDERS

Jared Bileski is a 6-0, 150-lb. LSM/close defender from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He played summer and fall ball for the Edge Lacrosse 2012 Elite Team. Last fall, he also captained the Kitchener-Waterloo U19 Men's Lacrosse Club in the Ontario Junior Men's Field League. Additionally, Bileski was the starting setter for the varsity volleyball team at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in Kitchener, Ontario.

Phil Harman is a 6-4, 195-lb. close defenseman and long pole middie from Howard High School in Howard County, Md. Harman has played on the varsity squad for the last three years. In addition, Harman was a member of the varsity football team at Howard. In summer 2011, he played for Mount St. Mary's University head coach Tom Gravante and the Maryland Raptors.

Tucker Palmer is a 5-11, 190-lb. defender from Phoenixville, Pa. and graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School where he was a two-sport athlete lettering in football twice and lacrosse twice. In 2011, Palmer won most improved lacrosse player and was recently awarded the career HEART (Hard working, Enthusiastic, Attitude, Respected, Team player) scholarship. He also played for the Philadelphia tournament team Twist Lacrosse and he is excited to start contributing to the Hood lacrosse program.

Tyler Williams is a 6-1, 165-lb. defender/LSM from Shrewsbury, Pa., and attended Susquehannock High School. Williams played on the football and lacrosse team all four years. In 2011, he received second team all-county in lacrosse despite only playing 10 games during the year due to injury. At Hood, Tyler plans to study applied mathematics and computer sciences.

MIDFIELDERS

Ben Crossen is a 5-9, 175-lb. face-off/offensive middie from Cape Cod, Mass. He has been the starting face-off and offensive midfielder for Cape Cod Academy's varsity squad since his sophomore year. Additionally, Crossen split time as the starting center for the Cape Cod Academy/Cape Tech varsity hockey team and the starting sweeper for his school's soccer team.

Cody Mai a 5-10, 195-lb. midfielder from Hanover, Pa. Mai attended Southwestern High School and played on the first midfield line. Mai played his summer lacrosse for Hood assistant coach TJ Buchanan and played his fall lacrosse for the York Legacy team. In 2011, Mai received second team all-division honors.

Tucker Spangler is a 5-9, 185-lb. midfield/face-off specialist from Chambersburg, Pa. Spangler was a senior captain for the Chambersburg High School varsity team last spring. Additionally, Spangler played inside linebacker for the football team and was nominated for the Big 33 East-West game. Before attending Hood this fall, Spangler plans to play on the Chambersburg alumni lacrosse team.

ATTACK

Tai Foster is a 6-0, 215-lb. attack from Honolulu, Hawaii. He started at attack for the Punahou School lacrosse team for the last two years, leading them to two state championships. Foster led the state with 32 goals and 17 assists in 10 games during his junior year and was captain of the team his senior year. He also started at defensive end for the varsity football team, leading them to a state championship. Foster was also on the varsity and JV swim teams. He received second team all-ILH and coaches attitude/dedication awards for football, and led the state in goals, assists and points scored in lacrosse.

Zach Speights is a 6-2, 170-lb. attackman from Shrewsbury, Pa. Speights attended Susquehannock High School and was a starting varsity attackman for the last two years. As a senior, he was a captain on the varsity squad and claimed second team all-district and first team all-county honors. He played summer ball for York Legacy and The Maryland Tribe.  Additionally, while at Susquehannock, Speights was a four-year starter for the varsity golf team.

Jack Zuckerberg is a 5-9, 160-lb. attack from Silver Spring, Md. He played summer and fall ball for the TripleEdge Elite team. He has played all four years on varsity at John F. Kennedy High School and is a two-year captain. Last year, Zuckerberg led the team with 18 goals and 16 assists. He also played on the Kennedy golf team and dive team last year.

Hood will compete in the Commonwealth Conference of the Middle Atlantic Conferences for the first time this spring.
