Hood Falls to Randolph-Macon 17-5
ASHLAND, Va.—The Hood College men's lacrosse team (1-2) was defeated 17-5 in a non-conference matchup against Randolph-Macon (1-1) Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets stifled Hood for much of the afternoon as the Blazers were never able to really get on track.
Freshman Chris Wilbur scored two goals to lead the Blazers in scoring on the day. His first goal, which was the first of his career, came with only a minute remaining in the second quarter as the Blazers were trying to cut into the Yellow Jacket lead. Junior Trey Freeman scored his fourth goal of the season to give him the team lead. Seniors Corey Roberts and Scott Thompson also scored a goal apiece.
Hood was without the services of goalkeeper Will Lane, who missed this game with a concussion he suffered against Shenandoah. Freshman Joey McCulloh started for the first time in his career and recorded nine saves on the afternoon.
Senior Hector Montoya led the Blazers in groundballs with seven and also won 13 of his 16 faceoff attempts.
Hood had a hard time containing Randolph-Macon's Brett Austin as Austin scored a game high five goals. The Yellow Jackets scored the first four goals of the game and eight of the first nine goals overall to put Hood in a deficit they could not overcome.
The Blazers return to action this Tuesday when they host soon to be conference opponent Albright at 3:30 p.m.
