Troy Wilson
FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore forward Tory Wilson of the Hood College men's basketball team has been chosen as the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland player of the week for the second time in three weeks.
Wilson earns this week's honor for helping Hood to a 2-1 week and a share for first place in the Capital Athletic Conference standings. The native of Frederick shot .750 from the field and led the Blazers in scoring in two of Hood's three games on the week.
Wilson started the week with a career-best 23-point performance against Marymount University Monday. He hit 10-of-12 from the field, the most crucial of which came just before time expired when his last-second layup clinched a 61-60 win for the Blazers.
Then on Wednesday against nationally ranked St. Mary's College (Md.), Wilson registered his team-leading fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks in a 65-54 setback.
Wilson capped the week by recording 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and picked off three steals in a 77-50 Hood win over Stevenson University Saturday, propelling the Blazers back into a tie for first place in the CAC standings.
Wilson currently lists second on the squad in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game, and leads the Blazers in rebounding at 8.1 boards per night. His scoring average is good for 15th in the CAC while his rebounding average places him third in the conference behind the University of Mary Washington's Brandon Altmann and Salisbury University's Mike Maczko. Wilson's seasonal .602 field goal percentage also lists third in the league. He has pulled down a league-best 3.7 offensive rebounds per game, helping the Blazers post a +5.8 rebounding margin on the year.
Hood (12-6, 7-2 CAC) is back in action Wednesday hosting Salisbury at 8 p.m. at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick. The Sea Gulls (9-8, 5-4 CAC) are tied with Wesley College for fifth place in the CAC and are one of the hottest teams in the league, having captured their last three conference matchups. Hood downed Salisbury, 71-61, on the road back on Dec. 2 in the CAC opener for both schools.
