Fans Encouraged to "Think Pink" at Upcoming Hoop Games

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's and women's basketball teams are joining over 750 schools around the country to show their support in the fight against breast cancer by participating in the WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) started "Think Pink" in 2007 in an effort to increase breast cancer awareness. This season, for all Hood home athletic events from Feb. 6-17, the Athletics Department is encouraging all fans to wear pink to the contests. Hood has three home doubleheaders during that time at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School: Feb. 6 vs. St. Mary's (6/8 p.m.), Feb. 9 vs. Marymount (2/4 p.m.) and Feb. 12 vs. Wesley (6/8 p.m.).
Students and kids attending the games will have the opportunity to make signs to cheer on the Blazers on pink posterboard. Additionally, all fans in attendance will receive a pink ribbon to show their support for this deadly disease. NCAA officials will be using pink whistles at the basketball contests. The Blazer women's basketball team will be sporting pink ribbons in their hair while the men's team will tie the pink ribbons to their shoelaces. The men's and women's coaching staffs will also incorporating pink into their game-day attire.
The Blazer basketball teams are not the only ones showing their support for breast cancer; the men's and women's swim teams will join the rest of the Capital Athletic Conference squads by participating in this initiative at next weekend's conference championship at St. Mary's College (Md.)
