Junghans Garners Second PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Weekly Honor

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College junior guard Ryan Junghans was named PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week for the second time this season Monday after his sensational performance in Hood's thrilling 124-120 double-overtime win at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
Junghans also won this award back in the first week of the season (Nov. 19).
In Saturday's game, the native of Derwood, Md., scored a school record 47 points, including seven three-pointers, beating the previous record of 44 points set by Santo Provenzano in the 2005-06 season. It was the first time in Junghans' prolific two-year career in the blue and grey that he eclipsed the 40-point plateau. He is now just 24 points away from becoming the third player in Hood men's basketball history to register 1,000 career points.
Junghans also picked off a career-high six steals in the contest with the Bison and played 44 minutes of the 50-minute contest.
For the week, the Magruder High School graduate ended up shooting 16-of-28 from the field, 8-of-13 behind the arc and a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. Junghans now leads the nation in free-throw percentage with a stellar mark of .968, having made 91-of-94 attempts on the season.
A starter in all 20 games, Junghans leads the team in numerous
statistical categories, including scoring (20.1 ppg),
three-pointers (56), three-point field goal percentage (.463) and
steals (28).
The Blazers (13-7, 7-4 CAC) are currently in third place in the Capital Athletic Conference and host fourth-place St. Mary's College (Md.) (11-9, 6-5 CAC) Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
