Hood Uses Sizzling Second Half to Rout Penn State-York, 102-55
FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (9-4) erupted for 63 second-half points and went on to rout the visiting Penn State University-York Lions (0-9), 102-55, Monday evening in nonconference action at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
The Lions only trailed the Blazers by four at the intermission but Hood came out inspired in the second half. After an Eric Boyle layup drew the Lions to within 41-40 at the 16:30 mark, Hood reeled off 26 unanswered points over the next 5:34 and Penn State-York never recovered.
After registering their second 100-point game of the season, the Blazers also notched a season-high with 14 three-pointers made. Four players reached double figures led by junior Ryan Junghans' 19 points. Junior Anthony Bennett finished with 18 points off the bench while sophomore Nick Scott and freshman Mark McGlone tallied 15 apiece.
Several Blazers set career-highs in the lop-sided contest. Freshman Tyler Snoots connected on 4-of-8 from the field for nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Chris LeGrand drilled a pair of triples for seven points in eight minutes of work while freshman Allen Kees also buried two treys for six points in addition to dishing three assists. Junior Billy Kim chipped in five points including a three-pointer in eight minutes of work off the bench.
The Blazers shot 62.5 percent from the field (20-of-32) in the second half and connected on 10-of-18 from distance. Hood also committed a season-low four turnovers and forced 22 miscues by the Lions.
Eric Hudak paced the Lions with 19 points and five assists in the losing cause.
Hood returns to action Wednesday at Marymount University in a Capital Athletic Conference game at 8 p.m.
