Junghans Named PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Ryan Junghans of the Hood College men's basketball team has been chosen as the first weekly recipient of the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week award for the week ending Nov. 18.

Junghans was Hood's leading scorer in both games of the season-opening Dickinson College Tip-Off Tournament last weekend, helping Hood to a third-place finish.

The 5-10 guard averaged 26.5 points in two contests and lit it up from long range, draining 11-of-21 from behind the arc.

In Hood's season opener against the College of Staten Island, Junghans drilled seven triples, one shy of his school record of eight set last season. He finished with a game-high 31 points in an 81-73 overtime defeat.

Then on Saturday in the consolation final against Penn State Harrisburg, the native of Derwood, Md., tallied 22 points and had three assists in a lopsided 94-51 victory.

For the week, Junghans connected on 17-of-34 from the field and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

This week the Blazers (1-1) will participate in the third annual Provident Bank Pride of Maryland Tournament, which is sandwiched around the Thanksgiving holiday. Hood hosts Johns Hopkins University Tuesday in a first round contest at 7 p.m. at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
