Hantman Makes 31 Saves in Loss to Wesley

Lauren Perzan
DOVER, Del.--Junior Anne Marie Hantman of the Hood College field hockey team (3-6, 0-4 CAC) put forth a valiant effort in the cage, turning away an astounding 31 shot attempts against the first-place Wesley College Wolverines (9-1, 3-0 CAC) in a 3-0 setback Friday evening.
Hantman's 31 stops rank second all-time in the Capital Athletic Conference single-game record book, three shy of the record set by Goucher College's Beth Matthews against York College (Pa.) during the 2000 season. That total also ties the school record also held by Cheryl Banks '06 against the College of Notre Dame back on Sept. 19, 2002.
The Wolverines pelted Hantman with attempts from the opening whistle, amassing 55 shots in the contest. Hantman denied the first 11 Wesley attempts before Jessica Franklin put one past her in the 18th minute. But that 1-0 margin would stand at the break as Hantman collected 16 saves in the first stanza.
Brooke Tadlock was relentless in the circle, firing off 23 shots, and finally found the back of the cage at the 43:07 to put Wesley up 2-0. Kerri Bratty tacked on the Wolverines' third goal with 35 seconds left.
Hood next travels to the University of Mary Washington Thursday for a CAC match at 4 p.m.
