Marywood Nips Hood Field Hockey, 2-1

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior midfielder Caitlin Hadzimichalis scored a
goal in each half to lift the visiting Marywood University Pacers
(1-0) to a narrow 2-1 victory over the Hood College field hockey
team (0-1) Saturday afternoon in the Blazers' home and season
opener at Thomas Athletic Field.
Senior captain Christa Lundskow got the Blazers on the board 11:50
into the contest when she put one past Stephanie Ziemski. It was
just the second goal of Lundskow's four-year career.
Then, with just over six minutes to go in the stanza, the Pacers
were awarded a penalty stroke, and Hadzimichalis went one-on-one
with Hood goalie Ashley Saylor. The Pacer midfielder tucked her
shot just inside the right side of the cage to knot the game at
1-1.
Marywood outshot the Blazers 23-6 in the contest but the squads
remained deadlocked for most of the second half until Hadzimichalis
capitalized on one of Marywood's eight penalty corners. Kate
Krempasky and Emily Wentzel set up the score, which would prove to
be the game-winner for the visitors. Hood had two solid scoring
chances in the final minute but was unable to convert two penalty
corners.
Saylor was credited with eight saves in defeat, while Ziemski
rejected four Blazer shot attempts. Hood's defenders also
registered five defensive saves - three by Lundskow and one apiece
by Crystal Parker and Jen Graham.
Hood returns to action Friday hosting Bryn Mawr College at 4:30
p.m. in a non-conference game at Thomas Athletic Field.
