Miller, Noel, Parker Honored by AWCC
FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Justina Miller, sophomore Crystal Parker
and freshman Brandy Noel of the Hood College field hockey team were
named to the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference first team as
announced by the league office Monday.
Miller cops her second consecutive all-league certificate after
earning first team honors as a sophomore. A starter in all 15 games
this season, she tied for the team lead in goals with five and
points with 12. Miller recorded game-winning goals against Wells on
Sept. 9 and Mary Baldwin on Oct. 28. She was also recognized by the
conference as the "Player of the Week" on Oct. 18.
Parker was an honorable mention choice as a freshman and earns her
first first-team honor this season. A local product of Urbana high
school, Parker appeared in all 15 games and is one of the
teamýs best defenders. Although she did not figure
statistically this season, head coach Staci Thomson considers her
to be a solid all-around player who has excellent field vision.
Noel had an outstanding freshman campaign for the Blazers. She tied
for top honors with Miller in scoring with five goals and two
assists. Noel notched back-to-back multi-goal games, the first
against Rosemont on Oct. 14 and the second against AWCC foe Mary
Baldwin on Oct. 28.
Wilson's Jennifer Huseman was selected as the league's "Most
Outstanding Player" while Phoenix head coach Shelly Novak was
tabbed the "Coach of the Year." In addition, Notre Dame's Ashley
Demski was chosen as the "Newcomer of the Year."
The Blazers finished the 2006 campaign with a record of 3-12
overall and owned a 2-2 AWCC mark.
