Justina Miller Tabbed AWCC "Player of the Week"
FREDERICK, Md.--Junior forward Justina Miller of the Hood
College field hockey team has been selected as the Atlantic Women's
Colleges Conference "Player of the Week" for the week ending Oct.
15. This marks the first time this season that a member of the
Blazer field hockey team has received this honor.
Hood split a pair of non-conference games last week, falling to
York College, 7-0, on Monday before returning home on Saturday to
defeat Rosemont College, 5-0. Miller scored a pair of goals against
the Ramblers to help Hood snap a nine-game losing streak. It was
her second multi-goal game of the year, the other coming in a 4-0
blanking over Wells College on Sept. 9.
Miller registered her first goal of the game at the 14:53 mark of
the first half off an assist from sophomore Jessica Head. Her
second tally, an unassisted score, came just six minutes into the
second half. The native of Mantua, N.J., now leads the team with
four goals and eight points. Hood's five goals against the Ramblers
were a season high and both victories for the Blazers this fall
have come via the shutout.
The Blazers (2-10, 1-2 AWCC) are currently in third place in the
AWCC and have just one regular-season contest remaining before the
conference tournament. Hood's regular season finale is slated for
Oct. 28 against Mary Baldwin College at Thomas Athletic Field. The
2006 AWCC Tournament will take place Nov. 4-5 at Wells College in
Aurora, N.Y.
