Thompson Wins Walk-Trot Division at Goucher Show
BALTIMORE, Md.--The Hood College equestrian team had a successful show at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition hosted by Goucher College and the heavy rain held off long enough to complete the show.
Only three members of Hood’s team rode at this competition but every rider earning a ribbon and individual points. Joe Morris and Katie Geiger rode in the advanced walk-trot-canter division. As they competed in separate sections, they both drew the same horse, rode well, and both placed fifth earning two individual points each.
Amy Thompson, the team captain, was the bright spot of the day. She placed first in the walk-trot division earned a blue ribbon and seven individual points. Having accumulated 35 points in the walk-trot division, Thompson will now regularly compete in the beginning walk-trot-canter division. By “pointing out” of a division, Thompson qualified to ride in the Zone 4, Region I regional competition at the walk-trot level on April 3, 2010. She is the first Hood College rider to make Regionals in four years.
The riders will compete again Sunday at the IHSA show hosted by the University of Richmond at The Pines in Ashland, Va.
