FREDERICK, Md—Freshman Michael Beidleman of the men’s track and field team and sophomore Alyssa Peterson of the women’s track and field team have been named the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 22.

Beidleman came to Hood from Magruder High School in Washington D.C. and added to his fantastic freshman campaign this past weekend at the Mason-Dixon Invitational. Beidleman ran a 49.82 in the 400 meters breaking the previous school record of 49.87 held by Ola Komolafe '11. Beidleman defeated 23 other sprinters in the race to capture the only first place finish for the men on the day.

The men’s team and Beidleman’s next event will be at the Capital Athletic Conference championships in two weeks on May 5 and 6 at Frostburg State University.

Peterson, who is from Taneytown, Md., and went to Francis Scott Key High School, dropped her personal best in the steeplechase at the Mason-Dixon Invitational over the weekend. Her time of 12:45.64 got her second place in the race and moved her to within eight seconds of the four year-old school record.

Peterson will look to possibly capture the school record when the Blazers return to action in two weeks to compete at the CAC championships.
