2008-09 Hood College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Constitution
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. SAAC will be directly supervised and supported by the Athletic Department.
Article II: Mission Statement Goals and Objectives
The mission of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
Goals and Objectives:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE GOALS OF THE STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY
COMMITTEE FOR HOOD COLLEGE:
1. To increase the level of participation in community service
activities by Hood student-athletes;
2. To provide a voice for student-athletes at Hood;
3. To promote athletic events throughout the college and
community;
4. To promote unity among all student-athletes by organizing
activities and/or functions that cross team lines;
5. To provide information and feedback to team members about
SAAC;
6. Promote Health and Wellness among student-athletes;
7. Be part of the planning for the end of the year sports banquet.
Article III: Membership and Elections
To be a member of SAAC, you must be a current member of an athletic department sponsored sport (club sports are included). Membership opportunities are determined yearly by the size of each team’s roster. All executive board positions are open to everyone except the president. The president must have served 1 year on executive board before becoming president.
Elections:
The second to last meeting of the year, representative will be nominated, by others or by themselves, for the executive board. If there is more than one nominee for each position, a ballot of election will occur during that meeting. The nominee must accept the nomination to be considered. The designated representatives will serve an entire year from the election time.
Article IV: Roles and Responsibilities
SAAC will be directly supervised by the Assistant Director of
Athletics for Communications.
Role of Advisor: To advise the organization in budgeting and
activities. The Advisor will also be the liaison between the
organization and the Athletic Director in seeking permission for
the activities the organization wishes to partake in.
Officers (with their responsibilities):
President (1 position)
• Oversees all activities and events concerning SAAC and the Athletic Department.
• Contacting the Team Representative to inform them about the upcoming meeting, time and location.
• Responsible for collecting all fundraising dollars.
• Working directly with the Advisor on planning the yearly meetings and events, including all fundraising projects.
• Responsible for organizing the spring Sports Banquet with the Advisor.
Vice-President (1 position)
• Taking the minutes of the meetings and then distributing them amongst the Reps and members of the board.
• Helping the Active Board Members in planning the two (2) community service activities and fundraising projects.
• Implementing strategies in direct relationship to the APPLE program.
• Other duties as assigned by the Advisor and SAAC President.
Activity Co-Chairs (2 positions)
• Create two (2) campus fundraising events (one each semester).
• Organizing the Midnight Madness celebration in October.
• Responsible for working with the Advisor in planning a picnic for all student-athletes in the fall and spring semester.
Banquet Chair (1 position)
• Setting the date and time
• Selecting the menu
• Creating, mailing out and tracking the invitations
• Set up and decorations
• Major Departmental Awards
• Itinerary for the banquet
• Senior Gifts
• Will work with the Activity Chair in creating two campus fundraising events to help alleviate the costs for the senior gifts
• Purchasing the athletic cords for graduation
Publicity Co-Chairs (2 positions)
• Will have direct contact with the athletic department and coaching staff about the meetings and other SAAC sponsored events
• Updating the bulletin board in the gym
Representatives (2 per
team)
• Calling the members of his/her team to inform them of the upcoming meeting, time, and location
• Be the liaison between his/her sport.
• Bring any information to the meeting concerning issues and topics brought up by the members of their team
• Relay information to team members and coaching staff
• Be actively involved in all SAAC sponsored events
Article V: Meetings
• The president will call and reside over the meeting
• SAAC Executives will also meet at least once a month with the Advisor
Article VI: Amendments
• The constitution will be updated annually and as needed

- This committee will not discriminate upon race, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political belief, national origin, marital statue, or sport.
