General Lesson Information

The Hood College Aquatics swim lesson program focuses on the development of basic swimming skills such as floating, rolling and breathing in order for students to gain comfort in an aquatic setting and become exceptional swimmers.  Learning to swim is a progression that, when done correctly, takes time.  We want to make sure that all the swimmers in our program become proficient in the skills of each level before advancing to a higher level.  The program is designed for students to repeat the same level for several sessions in order to reinforce these skills.  You will notice that at the lower levels the swimmers are often playing games.  That is because being comfortable in the water and developing a genuine love of the water is the root of further development as a swimmer.

A maximum of six children per class will be registered in all levels except level 5.

Goggle Policy

We ask that you please do not bring goggles for your swimmers in WB, AQI, AQII, Level I, and Level II classes. Part of learning to swim includes overcoming any fear of water in the face and eyes that may exist. Goggles can also cause a major distraction to both the swimmer wearing them and others in the class if they leak or do not fit correctly. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

For further information about the classes, please contact Hood College Aquatics at (301) 696-3484.

Classes will be held rain or shine; if classes are canceled, you will be notified through e-mail as soon as the decision is made. If you are not sure whether or not lessons will run due to weather, please call our office at (301) 696-3484.

There are no refunds for swimming lessons. Exceptions may be requested and will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
